Safety at PASS
Updated 2026-06-17
PASS is a tutoring marketplace that may serve minors. Safety is a baseline, not a feature. Here is what we do — and what we ask of every user.
1. Tutor review
- PASS reviews tutor applications before approval. An admin reviews each application; rejected applications are recorded with reason.
- Tutors may be asked to verify school affiliation, coursework, identity, or eligibility before accepting bookings.
- Additional safety requirements may apply before tutors can work with minor learners.
- Tutors are independent contractors but agree to follow PASS conduct rules as a condition of using the platform.
- PASS may restrict, suspend, or remove users who violate policies. Harassment, threats, discrimination, academic dishonesty, and unsafe conduct are not tolerated.
2. Parental consent for under-18
- Accounts for learners under 13 are restricted at signup: no bookings, no tutor messaging, until a parent or guardian verifies consent.
- Verification uses a Stripe SetupIntent in the parent's name — a recognized COPPA-compliant verifiable-parental-consent method.
- Parents receive transactional emails summarizing every booking, every cancellation, and every refund made on their child's account.
- Parents can request a copy of, or deletion of, their child's data at any time by emailing privacy@passtutoring.com.
3. Communication rules
- All tutor–learner communication happens through the PASS in-app messenger so there is a record we can review if something goes wrong.
- Tutors must not request personal contact info, social handles, gifts, or off-platform meetings from any learner — and never from a minor.
- Live online sessions use scheduled video links visible to admins on request. In-person sessions for minors must be in a public location and with parental knowledge.
4. Account safety
- Passwords require length, mixed case, a number, and a special character; password reset is available from the sign-in screen.
- Email-verified sign-up; sign-in events generate session records.
- Sensitive admin actions are logged.
5. Reporting a concern
If something feels off, tell us. Email support@passtutoring.com with "SAFETY" in the subject line. We acknowledge safety reports within one business day. For an immediate emergency, contact local authorities first.
6. Related policies
- Community Guidelines — conduct expectations and enforcement.
- Academic Integrity Policy — what tutoring is and is never.
- Privacy Policy — minor data handling (COPPA, FERPA-adjacent).
- Terms of Service.
